What is Fire Cupping?
As part of the natural aging process, one of the side effects of some people encounter is a stagnation of both blood and the fluid byproducts of connective tissue in the body. The reasons why these occur are not fully understood, although it could have a lot to do with the fact that most working people spend an awful lot of their time sitting still, which doesn't exactly promote a lot of good circulation.
The practice of fire cupping is almost as old as ancient Chinese medical solutions like acupuncture, and when you think about in principle, it shares a lot of the same goals as well.
During a fire cupping session, the patient is laid flat on their stomach, and the fire cupping practitioner comes in with a set of sturdy cups, and a small source of flame. A candle is what is usually used, the only requirement for the cups is that they be made out of a durable and fireproof material, such as glass or ceramic.
The flame is swabbed around on the inner rim of the cup, heating the air on the inside of it, an afterword the cup is placed quickly against the bare skin of the patient's back. The general idea is that the flame causes the air to expand on the inside of the cup, and what the rim of the cup is sealed against the skin of the patient, a vacuum is created.
The vacuum literary pulls at the patient's skin, and therein lies the healing potential of the fire cupping exercise. By creating suction, the procedure actually causes blockages in the flow of fluid in the body's connective tissues to free themselves up. The sensation that you can expect when undergoing a procedure like this is something like certain types of professional massages. You will literally be able to feel tension in your body, particularly in your back muscles, beginning to free up. It's quite a refreshing experience.
Since you're literally playing with fire, there might be concerns over whether or not fire cupping is something that is safe for an amateur to perform. You want the therapeutic benefits of tapping into the wisdom of ancient Chinese medicine, but you don't want to end up in the emergency room in the process. It's a perfectly fair question, and the answer is that it's perfectly safe just so long as common sense is exercised.
Never get the flame of the candle near your actual flesh, and don't allow the flame to heat the material of the cups up to a point where it will be painful once they make contact with your skin. The vacuum itself does have the potential to leave small marks or abrasions on the skin, but they are not cause for concern. While the marks may go away in a matter of a few hours to a few days, the healing effects of fire cupping will last for far longer.

A suction cup works by virtue of a vacuum that is created within the cup?
When the cup is pressed against a flat surface, most of the air is forced out, leaving a region of very low pressure. If a suction cup of area 1.2 cm2 attached to a ceiling is able to support an object with a mass as large as 0.62 kg, what is the pressure inside the suction cup?
Pressure=force/area. From the mass you get the force using weight=mass*gravity, and you already have the area (although the units should probably be converted from cm^2 to m^2).
